i think it goes without saying that, as an artist, i am very drawn to eyes. part of it has to do with the fact that i think art should make you feel seen, in a sense; whether or not a person can identify with a piece of art is irrelevant if it’s literally staring at them.

the other focus underlying my fascination with our squishy little sight orbs lays buried in the unadulterated horror i feel when being perceived.

as an ETT (Extremely Tall Transgendered™), people tend to stare.
    a lot.

whether or not it’s with malice, or wonder, or infatuation, neutrality, confusion, excitement, disgust, it doesn’t really change the fact that a lot of people’s eyes lock on to me for uncomfortable periods of time.

I don’t think there has been a single moment since i was 15 years old where i have felt like i could just disappear in to a crowd,

i want others to feel that focus reflected back upon them. maybe it’ll make them reflect upon the thoughts that are festering in their heads and further augment their experience of being stared at.

idk. all i know is that i don’t need my thoughts about theirs cluttering up mine.
these two collars were an exploration in to wearable accessories that stare back. also i needed to use those fucking eyes for something.

both collars were uniquely designed around reclaimed scrap leather, sharing one notable defect to the hide: holes! i had previously cast, painted, and domed a handful of resin eyes intended for use in ball-jointed dolls, and decided to use them to fill in the gaps.

    bags under my eyes

and eyes in der my bag.

    [2021]

i’ll set the stage: my old bag was falling apart, i needed a new one, i had a ziploc-bag full of miscellaneous black leather scraps and too much time on my creanty claws. so i autism puzzle pieced that shit together and turned those two bags in to one bag, and tried perhaps a little too hard to not have to cut or shape any of them along the way.

also i put some fuckin eyes in that shit because some of the scraps were posting hole on main, and i had eyes. now my bag can watch itself so i don’t have to.
